    Guwahati: Votes are being counted in five assembly seats in Assam amid tight security. According to the latest trend, the BJP and its allies are leading in all five seats of the state. Congress candidates have been trailing, including Samaguri, a party bastion, where Rakibul Hussain represented the constituency in the Assembly since 2001. The five seats went vacant after five legislators, including a cabinet minister, were elected to the Lok Sabha.

    GUWAHATI, Nov 23: The BJP and its allies AGP and UPPL have taken an early lead in all five constituencies of Behali, Samaguri, Bongaigaon, Dholai (SC) and Sidli which went to by-polls on Nov 13. As per initial figures, BJP’s Diplu Ranjan Sarmah has taken a lead of 2,431 votes over his nearest Congress rival Tanzil Hussain, son of former Samaguri MLA Rakibul Hussain. In Behali, BJP’s Diganta Ghatowal is leading by 3,589 votes over his Congress rival Jayanta Borah.

    GUWAHATI, Nov 12: The stage is all set for by-polls in five assembly constituencies of Assam tomorrow (Nov 13). Elections, necessitated after legislators of these five constituencies were elected to the Lok Sabha in the general elections, will be held in Dholai (SC) in Barak Valley, Samaguri, Behali, Bongaigaon and Sidli. While the BJP is contesting in Dholai (SC), Behali and Samaguri, alliance partners AGP and UPPL have put up candidates in Bongaigaon and Sidli respectively.
