I am a teacher at heart, and every year, for more than two decades, I have invited people to join me in the classes that I teach at the Stern School of Business at New York University. My voyage with ESG began with curiosity in my 2019 exploration of what it purported to measure, turned to cynicism as the answers to the Cui Bono (who benefits) question became clear and has curdled into something close to contempt, as ESG advocates rewrote history and retroactively changed their measurements in recent years.

In 2017, the corporate tax rate was cut from 35% to 21%. Unlike many of the tax cuts passed in that year, this tax cut was not set to expire after 2025 unless extended by Congress. During the Presidential campaign this year, the candidates offered very different proposals for the corporate tax rate. Kamala Harris called for increasing the rate to 28% while Donald Trump floated the idea of cutting the rate to 15%, but only for companies that manufacture products in the United States.
