David Graeber’s 2018 book, Bullshit Jobs, was a very interesting book. His theory of widespread meaningless jobs resonated with many who felt their work lacked purpose and contributed little to society. Graeber identified five categories of bullshit jobs:Flunkies: These are jobs that exist to make other people look important. Examples include personal assistants, corporate receptionists, and gatekeepers. Goons: These are jobs that involve enforcing pointless rules or hierarchies.
