How many Pacific-made or led films, excluding those featuring Dwayne Johnson or Jason Momoa, have you watched? Every year, more of our stories are showcased in cinemas or added to the Netflix lineup, and we love to promote anything that highlights our people, culture, and humour. I will admit that there are a number of Pacific movies I haven’t seen yet. To avoid “doom scrolling” on social media, I’ve decided to watch one of these films each month this year.

Most of us in Aotearoa, New Zealand, are steadily returning to work or school, bronzed and beach-barmed, with some people not ready to say goodbye to the holidays just yet. Our next little break is Auckland Anniversary weekend, and the organised among us would have already submitted their long weekend leave requests. As another year on the Gregorian calendar arrives, the “new year, new me” posts are filling up my newsfeed. I’ll admit that I used to be one of those people. But if I’m being honest, a few months would pass and I had already broken my New Year’s resolution. I realised that I didn’t actually like the idea of reinventing myself. Keeping up with that expectation was exhausting. Before the Covid pandemic hit, I decided to turn to my ancestral teachings to find ways to ground myself better.

Hundreds of glamorously dressed fashion enthusiasts attended the Pacific Fusion Fashion Show 2024 held in Tāmaki Makaurau at the weekend. Front of house was electric with anticipation for the final standalone PFFS runway before it joins New Zealand Fashion Week in 2025. Backstage was abuzz as models practiced their walks and poses, designers tweaked and adjusted their garments, and hair and make-up added final touches.

Fashionistas in Tāmaki Makaurau were treated to an evening filled with vibrant colour, gorgeous textiles, and bodacious Pacific beauty in the final standalone runway of the Pacific Fusion Fashion Show (PFFS). A partnership deal announcement earlier this year confirmed PFFS will become a permanent segment at New Zealand Fashion Week from 2025. PFFS Founder and Director Nora Swann said the evening was a proud celebration of “creativity, culture, and incredible talent”.

The video starts in the style of “When the music video doesn’t match”, a popular series in Uce Gang’s content, where he and his crew lipsynced the song, “Can I Get a Cheehoo” from the Disney film Moana 2.
