    COBB COUNTY, GA — Three new Sentry Robots are rolling out at the Cobb County jail with the aim of enhancing security and safety for inmates and jail workers. The state-of-the-art robots, made by DEKA, are being deployed as part of a 90-day trial period, according to Cobb County Sheriff Craig Owens. They will be used to help personnel with perimeter patrols and security rounds in select dormitories using 360-degree cameras, night vision, lights, heat detection, two-way audio capabilities and more.

    Nine comfort dog teams from six different states across the southeast arrived in Barrow County Saturday in the wake of the recent tragic mass shooting at Apalachee High School. Four people died in that incident, including two students and two teachers. Nine others were injured. Colt Gray, 14, was arrested and charged with murder. His father, Colin Gray, 54, was also arrested for “knowingly allowing” Colt to have a weapon, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

    Fulton County Schools Police have launched an investigation into a youth baseball coach who allegedly punched an umpire during a championship game Sunday at Milton High School. Fred Miller, 77, was one of two umpires officiating the 2024 Perfect Game 18-and-under National Championship game between the East Cobb Astros and the Reign. Miller said it was a scorching hot day.

A Flowery Branch man will spend 30 years in prison for raping a teenage girl and stabbing her 86 times in Gwinnett County. Gwinnett County prosecuting attorney Patsy Austin Gatson says 22-year old Zachary Iona met the 15-year-old girl at her family’s home in February 2022.

    Authorities in Gainesville said Tuesday they were searching for a suspect in the weekend shooting death of a 16-year-old from Gwinnett County. Gainesville Police Lt. Kevin Holbrook told WSB Radio that Jaishawn Overstreet, 16, was shot in the head Saturday afternoon at the Ridgecrest Apartments off Cleveland Highway. Overstreet was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville where he died Monday as a result of his injuries.
