Ocala city officials held meetings to discuss the construction of a new parking garage and hotel downtown. The six-level parking garage will have 805 spaces and cost roughly $18 million. The adjacent hotel, Downtown AC Hotel, is estimated to cost $40 million. Construction for both projects is slated to begin this year and end in 2026, barring unforeseen circumstances. Ocala officials held two meetings on April 9 to provide updates on two major construction projects downtown.

A man accused of boating under the influence when one of his passengers fell into the water and died has been arrested. Tydell Janard Smith was taken into custody on Monday and booked into the Marion County Jail on charges of BUI (boating under the influence,) manslaughter, and violation of navigation rules/resulting in a boating accident causing serious bodily injury or death. Smith, 31, of Dade City, appeared in front of County Judge Tommy Thompson on Tuesday for his first court appearance.
