The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened on May 8, 2025. Two Ocala Police officers fired at a man who was running away from a crashed vehicle. The man was hit in the right wrist. Police say the man had fled and crashed the vehicle after robbing a TD Bank branch in Ocala. Two other people, a man and woman, also were in the vehicle, police say.

The 150-acre wildfire burning in the Ocala National Forest was 75% contained as of midday May 3, according to Ludie Bond, a wildlife mitigation specialist with the Florida Forest Service. She said there's still smoke in the area and crews remain at the scene plowing lines and doing their best to contain the fire. According to the U.S. Forest Service, more than 50 people have been involved in fighting this fire since it started the afternoon of May 2.
