As the SEC spring meetings come to a close, one talking point that was brought up was the eight-game SEC conference schedule. It appears that instead of adding a ninth game to the schedule, which was floated around last season, there are talks of having a non-conference partnership with the Big 10. While the discussions are in their infancy, it wouldn’t be the craziest thing in the world. Teams would play a home-and-home series against a team from the other conference.

The Auburn Tigers remain in pursuit of 2027 four-star edge Jabbarius “Chicken” Garror. He’s currently committed to rival Alabama, but the Tigers haven’t given up on prying him away. Garror was on campus Thursday to visit the Plains once again. While he remains committed to the Crimson Tide, four other teams are also vying for the 38th-best recruit in the class of 2027. Along with Auburn, Kentucky, Ohio State and South Carolina are considered in the running.

As the long offseason for college football continues, spring meetings for coaches and certain staff are taking place in Destin, Fla. Auburn Tigers’ head coach Hugh Freeze has made the trip alongside several other coaches and SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey. A major discussion point is the potential move to nine conference games, according to 247Sports. This coincides with the College Football Playoff possibly moving to 16 teams soon. Both the SEC and the Big Ten are in favor of this move.

Auburn Tigers point guard and sixth-man Tahaad Pettiford will return to the Plains for his sophomore season. The program announced his official return Wednesday afternoon. He is the only player from Auburn’s rotation a season ago to return. Most were drafted or graduated and the rest transferred this offseason, highlighted by guard Chad Baker-Mazara who is now at USC. Pettiford put his name into the NBA Draft while remaining eligible for college play.
