It seems like Black women aren’t allowed vulnerability. That is what it means to be a ‘Strong Black Woman’, after all. Because when Black women speak out, or can no longer carry the pain that society has placed upon us, we are shamed for it. In some cases, we are harassed. Even when tragedy strikes Black women in our community (for instance, the murders of Breonna Taylor and Oluwatoyin Salau) and we temporarily hear phrases like ‘Protect Black Women’, they are usually hypocritical.

In an effort to convince her community of their sinking island, she resorts to a political demonstration, where she will sink into the sea herself.

Long-planned park along Trinity to break ground

June 4, 2024A park along the Trinity River in downtown Dallas appears to be finally becoming a reality after more than 25 years in the planning stage. The 250-acre Harold Simmons Park is slated to break ground later this year. The Simmons Park plans were unveiled in December but the project dates back to 1998, when voters first approved a park. “This started out as a dream quite a few years back,” said Tony Moore, CEO of the Trinity Park Conservatory, which is overseeing the project.

Terms like “therapy, mental health, and mental illness,” were (and still are) shameful things born of years of white supremacy and misogyny.
