At 4:30 p.m. on April 10, award-winning poet Dante Micheaux stood before a gathering of listeners to read his poetry in the Illini Union Bookstore. He is the author of the poetry collections “Circus” (2018) and “Amorous Shepherd” (2010). The reading was funded by the Robert J. and Katherin Carr Visiting Author Series. Micheaux’s latest publication, “Circus,” won the Four Quartets Prize from the Poetry Society of America and the T.S. Eliot Foundation.

In March, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker officially appointed Suzet McKinney to the University of Illinois System Board of Trustees. Having been officially confirmed by the Illinois State Senate, McKinney will serve on the Board through January of 2031. The Board of Trustees is the University’s highest governing body, overseeing all schools in the UI System, including its Chicago and Springfield campuses.

For all of the concern about pitching this season for Illinois (18-12, 7-5), it enters its series against Indiana (19-14, 9-6) in a relatively good place. In fact, the Illini currently have a better record than they did at this point last season (17-13). A good weekend against Indiana could propel Illinois into the upper echelon of the Big Ten standings. However, the talented Hoosiers won’t make it easy.

This morning, the University’s Federal Updates Steering Group released a Massmail with updates on recent federal policy changes. The email was prefaced by a letter from Chancellor Robert Jones and Provost John Coleman addressing the federal government revoking student visas for some international students at the University. In the letter, Jones and Coleman addressed the revocations and affirmed the University’s commitment to its students.
