On Dec. 6, the fifth book in the Stormlight Archive series by Brandon Sanderson was released. Readers have been waiting for this book since its announcement last year. Wind and Truth also ends the first arc of the series, and end the major plot in the first five books. The book is set in the fantasy world of Roshar, which is a part of Brandon Sanderson’s multiverse called The Cosmere. What exactly is this competition? Basically, it is judged by a national board for television awards. First, I competed in the regional competition. I was a part of the Great Central Lakes region, and from there I was chosen to move on to the national competition. How can students get involved with this? People can get involved by taking the television and broadcasting class at our school. I am so happy that I took that class because I can get to do things that I really enjoy here now.

How did you get into your sport? My parents are both golfers so they inspired me to start playing golf. How have you been motivated to keep going? I have been motivated by goals of winning state championships. While state is an amazing accomplishment, I have also simply been motivated by my desire to do the best I can each and every season. How has Carmel helped you with your sport?

Attendance has become a priority for many schools. For example, Indiana legislators passed Senate Bill 292 which addresses chronic absenteeism. Although this law doesn’t specifically address issues for high school attendance, this year, school administration has passed new policies regarding attendance that can be found in the student handbook. According to Assistant Principal Brittany Wiseman, there are two main changes occurring.

Indiana has new proposed diploma requirements starting with the graduating class of 2029. Multiple classes were no longer be required for students to obtain their diploma, including economics, Algebra II and more. According to Principal Tim Phares, administration is trying to navigate these new changes. “(Ultimately) our hands our tied when it comes to the new diploma requirements. We can give input, but the state determines what is required for students to take,” Phares said.

Teacher Appreciation Week spans from May 6 to 10 this year. During this week, students like junior Allyson Swearingen said they try to make the week special. “I buy gifts for my teachers to show that I appreciate all they do for us throughout the year,” Swearingen said.

Chaya Reich, Carmel Culinary Boosters presidentWhat is the significance of the Carmel Cheftacular event? Cheftacular is a fantastic educational collaboration between CHS culinary arts students and local chefs producing a public tasting event and culinary competition for scholarships to Sullivan University for our students and bragging rights for our chefs. Cheftacular supports CHS culinary arts, the Cheftacular Scholarship and the Hamilton County Harvest Food Bank.
