Since the exercise was announced in August 2022 after a Cabinet approval, the government set many deadlines and failed, with the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) citing several constraints which were technical and financial.

A new secure platform for the verification and authentication of Nigeria’s National Identification Number (NIN) has been unveiled. In a statement, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) said the launch of the NIN Authentication app (NINAuth) had been approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in furtherance of his vision to enhance the national digital ID management infrastructure of the country.

Ghana’s National Identification Authority (NIA) is bringing more convenience to the way citizens apply for premium services related to the national ID card, with a new measure requiring first-time applicants to submit their requests online only. According to a post on the NIA’s Facebook page, the objective is to streamline the ID card application process and access to other premium services such as card replacement or personal information update.

The Bermuda Banking Authority (BMA) held consultations with key stakeholders in this regard recently to get ideas on what factors to incorporate into the draft legislation being worked upon. The BMA called for feedback on the licensing framework last November.
