Pam Karlos has served on the White Rock YMCA (the Y) board for over 40 years before retiring at the end of 2024. But her time at the Y started long before she served on the board and her story in our neighborhood is not over yet. Learn more about her YMCA journey. What was your first interaction a YMCA? When I was 10 years old, with a single mom, I spent many summer days riding my bike from Lemon and Inwood to the Y on Preston Road — long before it was the Park Cities Y or Moody Y.

The annual Homeless Point in Time (PIT) Count in Dallas and Collin Counties will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday Jan. 23, at First United Methodist Church. Organized by Housing Forward NTX, PIT is the annual count of individuals experiencing homelessness. The count, required by the federal government, is meant to help communities understand the extent of homelessness.

La Casita is opening a new location in the Continental Gin Building this upcoming spring. Built in 1888 as the largest manufacturer of cotton gins in the world, the historic building is now home to flex work/office spaces, restaurants and outdoor patio areas. Serving both coffee and bakery items, the new La Casita location will be replacing CGB Coffee and operating in the mixed-use building’s lobby space.

Bath House Cultural Center is seeking out proposals for the 2025-2026 performing arts season. The cultural center welcomes proposals from all performing arts styles such as theatre, dance, music, storytelling, multidisciplinary, etc. Possible spaces to book performances include Bath House Theater, Lake Level and A Place to Perform. The cultural center is looking to fill calendar slots from August 2025 to June 2026.
