Police in Pakistan have made dozens of arrests following a string of protests targeting KFC branches across the country which led to one man being killed. Protesters, angry at the war in Gaza, have been urging a boycott of the chain, claiming it's a symbol of the United States and its ally Israel. At least 20 attempted attacks on KFC outlets have been recorded across the country in the past week, Pakistan's Minister of State for the Interior Talal Chaudhry told the BBC.

Armed militants in Pakistan's Balochistan region have attacked a train carrying hundreds of passengers and taken a number of hostages, military sources have told the BBC. The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) fired at the Jaffar Express Train as it travelled from Quetta to Peshawar. A statement from the separatist group said it had bombed the track before storming the train in remote Sibi district. It claimed the train was under its control.

Malala Yousafzai has urged Muslim leaders to challenge the Taliban government in Afghanistan and its repressive policies for girls and women. "Simply put, the Taliban in Afghanistan do not see women as human beings," she told an international summit hosted by Pakistan on girls education in Islamic countries. Ms Yousafzai told Muslim leaders there was "nothing Islamic" about the Taliban's policies which include banning female education and stopping women from working.

A Metropolitan Police officer is "not a million miles away" from losing her hand after she was injured during a sword attack in north-east London. A 14-year-old boy died in Tuesday's attack in Hainault, and four others, including two police officers, were injured. On Wednesday, Met Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley said the female officer suffered "horrifically serious" arm wounds. A male officer's hand was also seriously injured, he added.
