    100 years agoThe rash of recent clothing- and fabric-based crimes in the Capital Region continued in Schenectady, but an attempted robbery was thwarted by a stalled automobile. More than $1,000 worth of woolens were loaded into a car parked in the rear of Israel Goldberg's tailor shop on Nott Terrace. When the vehicle refused to start, the thief or thieves ran off, abandoning the car and the loot.

    100 years agoWith cold weather forecasting the end of Albany’s street improvement season for 1924, city engineer Charles E. Brennan estimated that for the year, $1 million (almost $18.5 million in 2024) was spent on new streets and improving old ones. The Madison Avenue overhaul, the largest project in recent memory, was nearing completion at Manning Boulevard, with plans already in place for a similar renovation of Western Avenue in 1925, and a plan for another $1 million or more that year.
