Bishop Daniel Felton walks the Lift through the Conclave processBishop Daniel Felton of the Diocese of Duluth reflected on Pope Francis’ legacy and outlined what to expect from the conclave that begins Wednesday, May 7. His South American heritage will be part of that legacy. “He was from Argentina. Brought kind of the South American experience into the Catholic church. Catholic means universal, so that was appropriate,” Bishop Felton said. The late pope was also deeply committed to mercy.

In early 2025, United Protestant Church in the Morgan Park neighborhood of Duluth was added to the National Register of Historic Places. It was built in 1921, as US Steel was creating its “model town.”“When US Steel built the town and was building the homes, they built the Catholic church, which was on the other end of town,” UPC Pastor Mitch Nelson said.
