We’ve done studies on how draft capital can impact a player’s NFL career. Some might have taken some time to hit (Hunter Renfrow, Darnell Mooney, Jauan Jennings), and others hit immediately (Malik Nabers, Ja’Marr Chase, Ladd McConkey). Even so, it’s not like players who are drafted high always hit immediately, and players who are drafted late don’t always take years to develop (Amon-Ra St.Brown for example).

What’s up everyone! The NFL draft is next week! Between last week and now, my plan is to get you all up to speed with exactly how draft capital effects fantasy relevant positions. Everyone has their favorite sleeper running back and receiver, or for the IDP guys out there I’m sure there’s a line backer you can’t wait to see drafted (I’ve had those too, believe me!). But don’t let your hype control you. NFL teams tell us a lot with their selection process.

We all know that draft capital plays a huge part in a player’s path to success in the NFL. Of course, we see players come in all the time as Day 3 draft selections or as a UDFA and have good, long careers. Plenty of guys on defense, or depth options for NFL teams, or special team specialists come from that area of the draft. But, not to take anything away from those men who have achieved NFL status regardless of how they got there, we’re not concerned with that for fantasy.

The 2025 NFL Combine just finished up last weekend. Everyone is obsessed with the new incoming rookies. And rightfully so. Quarterback is by far the weakness of the draft for fantasy purposes, but this is an amazing class at running back, has solid WR options, and superb tight ends. In fact, the running back class is so good that my highest graded back from my production model in the 2023 class would be the RB6 this year.
