Introduction Tau is a primary microtubule-associated protein in normal mature neurons, where it stabilizes microtubule networks.1 Pathologically, hyperphosphorylated tau detaches from microtubules, leading to improper accumulation and oligomerization, which are hallmarks in the etiology of tauopathy-associated neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease2 (AD), Pick's disease,3 and chronic traumatic encephalopathy4 (CTE).
