The Boone and Crockett Club is prepping for its 32nd Big Game Awards, which will take place in Springfield, Missouri, from July 24 to 26, 2025. In advance of the event, the Boone and Crockett Club hosted a Media Summit and Judges Panel, where 27 official measurers, along with support staff and media, spent time in Springfield recently.

It’s an event I’ve wanted to attend ever since I heard about it – the National Pheasant Fest and Quail Classic. Hosted by Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever, this year’s gathering took place at the Kansas City Convention Center. Along with the seminars, exhibitors and bird dogs with their “humans” everywhere, the event also offered a brunch for women, titled “Women on the Wing.” This affiliate program began in 2018 in response to the burgeoning interest of women in the world of upland hunting.

Easter time is a wonderful opportunity to think spring and brightness – outside and inside. I wanted to find Easter desserts that had these qualities: appealing, colorful and easy to make. I found two ways to knock out some little dessert ditties that could grace a dessert buffet table and add a little zing to the mix on the big day. Thanks to Pinterest, I found Easter blossom cookies and flower pretzel bites. For assistance, I relied on help from the grandkids.

I have been wearing a pair of popular brand, gingham-patterned rubber boots, ankle high, for years. I bought them at least 9 years ago to match my granddaughter’s gingham boots, made by the same company. When Lacrosse reached out to me with an offer to review the new Alpha deck boots in Timberwolf/camo, I jumped at the chance, and looked forward to trying them. I have not been disappointed.
Throwing Down at the Dump with a Rossi Brawler

According to Rossi’s website, “For when you only need one shot, there’s the Rossi Brawler. You can throw down on anything from rattlesnakes to medium-sized game thanks to the Brawler’s ability to fire either 45 Colt or a 410 shotshell.” I decided to “throw-down” at an old dump that is situated on our property here in the Ozarks. It has a good backstop in addition to being a dump. When I saw the Brawler, I thought, “Now, that gun looks fun.” Seriously. It did not disappoint.

I attended a panel discussion titled “New Efforts in the Industry’s Fight to Reduce Suicide” at this year’s SHOT (Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade) Show in Las Vegas, sponsored by SHOT Show University. According to the description of this seminar, from the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), “FFLs and shooting ranges are among the most important partners in the firearm industry’s efforts to educate FFL and shooting range staff and customers on how to prevent suicide.
