ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC) - We have an update to Delta County travel as the Delta Area Transit Authority says there’s no quick fix for the loss of JN Taxi. On May 2nd, TV6 reported JN Taxi planned to close its doors this month. It was the only taxi service in Delta County. The company stopped operations this past weekend. Today, DATA answered questions from worried riders at its first community listening session. Concerns included work, weekend and hospital transportation.

ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC) - Today, a recovering addict told Delta County high schoolers his story. It was the first day of a three-day tour through Central U.P. schools focused on talking about drinking and drugs in a way kids would understand. Escanaba High School students say kids their age have ways to get drugs and drink alcohol. “You hear stories about it all the time,” Senior Maggie Martin said.

GLADSTONE, Mich. (WLUC) - Monday night, the Gladstone City Commission approved a downtown social district. The vote was 4-1 with Commissioner Robert Pontius as the lone ‘no’ vote. A packed house showed up to hear from Gladstone’s Downtown Development Authority. Director Patricia West explained pros and cons, where the district would be and what a social district is.

WELLS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLUC) - A Wells Township animal shelter will be able to keep its inhabitants covered for years to come thanks to an Escanaba company and a large in-kind donation. On a sunny spring day, workers sprayed the roof of the Delta Animal Shelter. They were getting it ready for a treatment, which will ensure those inside the shelter stay protected.

ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC) - U.P. high schoolers went to the draft in Escanaba on Friday, only this draft wasn’t for the NFL. Instead, the seniors inked deals for lifelong careers. “I knew I wanted to do something either electrician, plumbing, pipefitting, HVAC,” Rapid River senior Morgan Kelly said.
