City’s Fire & Rescue Service's spokesperson, Jermaine Carelse, states that the Tokai fire area has been divided into five to maximise our capacity and ‘surround’ the fire, taking into account the wind speed and direction. As a precautionary measure, Disaster Risk Management (DRM) assisted with the evacuation of 198 households from the Noordhoek Manor, including 48 frail care residents. Carelse says the residents of Barnyard and Silwersteen have decided to evacuate.

Please drop off donations, including water, energy drinks, and energy bars, at the Volunteer Wildlife Services Newlands, 1 Union Avenue, Newlands. Residents living in the Lakeside and surrounding areas can drop off supplies at the Lakeside Fire Station.

Last night, ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the party had decided that the “best way forward” would be to form a GNU. “This moment calls for the broadest unity… and multi-party co-operation is needed if we are to overcome these challenges,” said Ramaphosa. The ANC is inviting political parties to join the government. It’s already been speaking to the DA, IFP, PA, NFP and EFF. It had been trying to speak to the MK too.
