Despite global trends showing a decrease in young1, 2 and first-time3 blood donors, there remains an absence of recruitment strategies targeted at young donors. Gamification (using game elements to enhance a provided service4) is associated with stronger purchasing intentions in young populations.5 Applying gaming elements to blood donation may thus provide a novel means of engaging young donors.
