TRENTON, Canada Canadian households and businesses were on the upswing financially until US President Donald Trump enacted tariffs that pose a new threat to the country’s financial stability, Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem said Thursday. Macklem released the annual Financial Stability Report at a news conference in Ottawa, and the news was not good. “The big message in this report is we now face a new threat,” he told reporters.

TRENTON, Canada Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney met US President Donald Trump on Tuesday and firmly said: “Canada is not for sale.”Carney’s stance was in contradiction to Trump’s, who has said time and again that he wants to annex Canada and make it the 51st state. Canada’s sovereignty was just one issue discussed during Carney’s visit to the White House, where the two leaders touched on defense, trade, tariffs and other subjects while steering away from any hint of hostilities.

TRENTON, Canada King Charles will visit Canada later this month and deliver the Speech from the Throne to open the new parliament, it was announced Friday. Newly-minted Prime Minister Mark Carney said he invited the king to deliver the May 27 speech. The visit is seen as reinforcement of Canada’s sovereignty in the face of a 51st state annexation threat from US President Donald Trump. “That (Charles’ visit) clearly underscores the sovereignty of our country,” Carney told a press conference.
