Pat Riley had his end of season media availability on Friday and suggested that the Miami Heat could be embarking on a major offseason after they traded away Jimmy Butler and fell another tier in the Eastern Conference.
“We have to make changes philosophically and even personnel wise," said Riley. "We probably won’t run it back. But players aren’t just going to show up.

The Miami Heat have become "cautiously optimistic" of their chances of trading Jimmy Butler by the Feb. 6 trade deadline and are engaged with several teams beyond the Phoenix Suns. The Suns have struggled to facilitate a workable trade for Butler.
Miami has a number of incentives to resolve the Butler situation by the deadline rather than in the offseason when he could exercise his $52.4 million player option.

Before Jimmy Butler requested a trade, the Miami Heat had not looked into trading him. The Heat also made no attempts to try to trade Butler during the offseason. While the Heat didn't offer Butler an extension, they had planned to play out the season in hopes they could go another playoff run with him.
Entering the season, Miami strongly believed Butler would play out the season and not do anything disruptive.

The Miami Heat are seeking a quality player or multiple quality players to help them this season as they evaluate trade offers on Jimmy Butler. Miami also doesn't want to take back any long-term salary for the 2026 offseason unless it is for an All-Star talent.
With the Heat yet to receive any offers they are strongly considering, they are operating under the expectation that Butler will play for them again at the conclusion of his seven-game suspension.

The Miami Heat have no intentions of trading Jimmy Butler this offseason. In addition, the Heat are unlikely to extend Butler's contract before the end of this coming season. The leaves both player and team in a potentially tricky situation.
Butler is expected to opt out of his contract following the season to become an unrestricted free agent. The veteran wing would hit the market as a 36-year-old player coming off a max contract.

Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier III is considered week-to-week with a neck injury. Rozier missed the last four games of the regular season and both of Miami's Play-In Tournament games due to the injury.
While a serious injury, the veteran guard's career isn't assumed to be in danger from the neck issue. However, there is no timetable for when Rozier might be able to play.
The Heat acquired Rozier from the Charlotte Hornets in late-January in exchange for Kyle Lowry and a future first-round pick.

A.J. Puk is now the "frontrunner" to claim the fourth spot in the Miami Marlins' starting rotation, according to a report. Puk, 29, has never made a Major League start but has started 42 games in the Minor Leagues. The sixth overall pick in 2016, Puk moved to the bullpen in 2019 after undergoing Tommy John surgery the year prior.
