It was time to return to Rabaraba Health Centre (HC), a place that had become synonymous with resilience and hope. Our previous visit had marked the near completion of the THOR-Rotary Boroko rainwater tank project, and now, with the final work completed the day before, we needed to settle payments with the workmen.

The circular island of Goodenough rises dramatically from the waters of the Milne Bay Province, crowned by the magnificent Mount Oiautukekea. At 8,320 feet, it dominates the skyline and serves as a silent witness to the lives unfolding at its base. Nestled here is the Wataluma Catholic Mission, a small health center where life and death struggles are waged daily in the rugged, remote expanses of Papua New Guinea. Goodenough Island is not just a scenic dot in the Pacific Ocean.

This presents a significant opportunity for credit unions to help these consumers build financially healthy lives and establish trust and long-term relationships.

I was ready to wash down the Beaver from an earlier medivac, when I received a call from Doctor Rodney Talo at Alotau hospital, to say there was a young mother at Wadele Aid Post having prolonged labour and could we assist. Of course. Wadele is on the North coast of Ferguson Island and can be difficult to land there on the water at times due to wind shear from the surrounding high mountains.
