The 100th Lowell City Golf Tournament will have a different feel when the top golfers from Vesper, Mt. Pleasant, Long Meadow and Nabnasset Lake tee off next month. Two recent former champions will not be in the 48-player field. Nabnasset's Brandon Gillis, the 2021 and 2023 champion, is in his second year as an assistant coach at the University of Rhode Island, where he starred after transferring from Wake Forest. Also not in the field is Vesper's John DeVito, the 2019 champ.

Yes, the London Knights are an absolute wagon. London went 55-11-2 during the regular season and waltzed to the Ontario Hockey League's Western Conference title with 112 points. The Knights feature firepower throughout their lineup. But someone is stopping pucks at the other end of the ice and UMass Lowell fans should be excited about the goaltender. Austin Elliott, a 6-1, 180-pound netminder from Strathmore, Alb., is part of UML's incoming class for the 2025-26 season.

Martin Somerville is taking his basketball talents to Florida State University. Somerville entered the NCAA transfer portal after a memorable freshman season at UMass Lowell. Somerville took visits last week to BYU and then Florida State. He announced via social media that he he would play next season for the Seminoles after his visit to Tallahassee. In UMass Lowell's Division 1 era, no player has made the splash Somerville made as a rookie.

The New England Revolution received $600,000, plus an additional $50,000 in conditional compensation, in a trade with the San Jose Earthquakes for midfielder Noel Buck. The Revolution also retain a percentage of Buck’s future sell-on rights. Buck, a native of Arlington, departs the Revolution after making 47 MLS regular season appearances, with 30 starts, for his hometown club. The midfielder also made two postseason starts in the Audi 2023 MLS Cup Playoffs.
