Structurally, riboflavin features a unique heterocyclic ring system, combining an isoalloxazine ring with a ribitol side chain [7]. This configuration enables riboflavin to be converted into FMN and FAD, two coenzymes that play crucial roles in various enzymatic reactions (Fig. 1).
