Super Eagles star Taiwo Awoniyi is awake after undergoing a second round of abdominal surgery. BBC Sport says Awoniyi is out of his induced coma, which he underwent on Tuesday after his first round of surgery on Monday. The Nottingham Forest striker was injured late into Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Leicester City when he collided with a post. He was rushed to hospital on Monday morning after being checked by Forest medicos.

The Naira continued its upward trend on Wednesday, appreciating further at the official market and closing at N1,596.70 to the U.S. dollar. According to data released on the Central Bank of Nigeria’s official website, the local currency gained N3.33 against the dollar. This improvement represents a 0.21 per cent appreciation compared to the rate of N1,600.03 per dollar recorded at the close of trading on Tuesday.

A former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, on Wednesday said that in spite of the imperfections in democracy, the era of military rule must remain behind Nigeria. Gowon stated this in Abuja at the unveiling of a book titled “Military Factor in Nigerian History, 1960-2018” by the Historical Society of Nigeria (HSN), as part of activities to mark the association’s 70th anniversary.
