Super Eagles star Taiwo Awoniyi is awake after undergoing a second round of abdominal surgery. BBC Sport says Awoniyi is out of his induced coma, which he underwent on Tuesday after his first round of surgery on Monday. The Nottingham Forest striker was injured late into Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Leicester City when he collided with a post. He was rushed to hospital on Monday morning after being checked by Forest medicos.

The Naira continued its upward trend on Wednesday, appreciating further at the official market and closing at N1,596.70 to the U.S. dollar. According to data released on the Central Bank of Nigeria’s official website, the local currency gained N3.33 against the dollar. This improvement represents a 0.21 per cent appreciation compared to the rate of N1,600.03 per dollar recorded at the close of trading on Tuesday.

Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi is in an induced coma after having the first phase of surgery on a serious abdominal injury. The Nigeria international, 27, collided with the post in the 88th minute of the 2-2 draw against Leicester at the City Ground on Sunday as he attempted to get on the end of a cross from Anthony Elanga. He had surgery on Monday night and remains in hospital, with the rest of the procedure set to be completed on Wednesday.
