1. IntroductionNonribosomal peptides (NRPs) belong to a class of microbial secondary metabolites that have been a prolific source of bioactive compounds with a wide spectrum of medicinal applications, including antibiotics, immunosuppressants, and antineoplastics. This structurally diverse group is assembled from amino acid building blocks by a common thiotemplate-directed multistep reaction mechanism catalyzed by large modular enzymes termed nonribosomal peptide synthetases (NRPSs) [1,2].

INTRODUCTION One of the most attractive and efficient strategies for producing steroid precursors useful for the synthesis of steroid pharmaceutical drugs is to utilize mycobacterial strains to transform naturals sterols into useful intermediates or synthons as building blocks (Donova, 2021; Fernández-Cabezón et al., 2018; Nunes et al., 2022).
