Three days after arriving home in Ireland last November, Professor Jean O’Sullivan received a text message from a colleague in Zambia, where she had just finished running an emergency medicine workshop. A 22-year-old builder had been admitted to University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka with a collapsed lung after being hit by a truck. Irish teenagers are selling content on the adult subscription site OnlyFans because they get no money from their parents and it is “easier” than getting a job, a children’s charity has said. The broadcasting legend Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh and the veteran journalist Tommie Gorman were laid to rest in their respective home counties of Kerry and Sligo. Ó Muircheartaigh’s funeral mass heard that the renowned GAA commentator was like a “grandfather” to the nation. His coffin was draped in the green-and-gold Kerry flag as it was carried into St Mary’s Church in Dingle. Ó Muircheartaigh died in hospital last Tuesday, aged 93. He is survived by his wife, children and grandchildren.
