SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Spirit of Springfield is notifying drivers of a traffic advisory that will be in place ahead of the World’s Largest Pancake Breakfast on Saturday. Starting on Thursday, “no parking” signs will be posted and enforced by local law enforcement in the area of Main Street from State Street to Bridge Street. At 10:00 a.m. on Friday, Spirit of Springfield officials stated that barricades will be placed where Main Street intersects with Bridge Street and at State Street.

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held next week at Valley Opportunity Council’s (VOC) new Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program location in Chicopee. The new WIC program storefront was established in a move by VOC from its previous location on the second floor of the Mt. Carmel Avenue building, which houses many of the agency’s other programs.

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A black bear was spotted in a neighborhood in Chicopee early Tuesday morning. Luis Rivera sent 22News this video of a black bear running in a yard on Memorial Drive in Chicopee. Rivera said the video was taken at 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Bears are often attracted to residential areas when human-associated foods, such as bird seed, trash, and pet food, are left out and accessible for them to eat.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A Wales man was sentenced to prison last month for possessing multiple illicit controlled substances, including fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine. Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni announced the conviction and sentencing of 37-year-old Christopher Anderson of Wales on Tuesday. This sentencing follows charges Anderson faced in 2022 in Monson.

AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – Ahead of its closure for renovations to begin, the historic Jones Library in Amherst held a farewell celebration on Saturday, with hundreds of visitors coming to say goodbye until expansion is complete. Jones Library will officially close on Wednesday, so those who still want one more opportunity to visit have a chance. Plans for this renovation and expansion project have been in the works for over a decade, and as of May 1, over 87% of total project costs have been secured.
