Dry, sunny weather this month is putting a spring in the step of those enjoying the sunshine, but there is a dark side to all the light for hay fever sufferers. This week, parts of the UK are expected to see high levels of pollen released into the air, known as a 'pollen bomb'. What is a 'pollen bomb'? Whilst there is, scientifically, no such thing as a 'pollen bomb', it's a term that has gained popularity in recent years to describe a short period of high pollen release.

Spirits have been lifted by record-breaking amounts of sunshine - and there's more to come! How much sunshine did we get in March? The UK saw 151.6 hours of sunshine in March - that is 139% of the average. All parts of the UK have enjoyed above-average sunshine, and the areas with the most sunshine were in the southeast, with more than 200 hours of sunshine in East Anglia alone. What about the temperatures?

With blue skies, sunshine and temperatures widely into the high teens (19.7C recorded in Crosby, Merseyside) this weekend, the coming week is going to be quite the shock to the system. For some, a ten degree drop in temperature expected.Why is this week going to feel so cold? For much of the past week, southeasterly winds have been drawing mild Mediterranean air in across the UK which, coupled with sunny skies, have allowed temperature to rise well above the seasonal average.

New analysis shows alarming rises in seasonal temperatures in the UK, with spring the fastest-warming climate. The average spring temperature has increased by 1.8C since 1970, according to Climate Central's analysis of Met Office data, largely due to climate change.
