Ryan Jankowski took a nap. It was the opening day of the 2021 NHL Draft, and the then-Arizona Coyotes' associate director of amateur scouting hit the pillow with a general idea of his team's plan. Arizona had to forfeit its first-round pick (11th overall) that year due to a violation of the NHL's combine testing policy during the 2019-20 season, so Jankowski and his colleagues had focused on prospects projected to go later in the draft. Then everything changed.

Hockey is back for the Utah Mammoth - kind of. The team will host its development camp from June 29 through July 3, during which Mammoth prospects - and possibly invited undrafted free agents - will receive NHL coaching instruction both at and away from the rink. The camp offers the opportunity for players to show their progress and get a taste of the pro pace, and for the organization to get an up-close look at the assets in its system.

JoAnna Sorensen looked down at her phone and suddenly saw $200 in her Venmo account. It was a gift from a Utah hockey sisterhood. Sorensen's nephew is battling Lymphoma and was having a hard time after treatments a few weeks ago. The Delta Center renovations have been pushing along this summer. Smith Entertainment Group announced the multi-phase process to transform the downtown arena into a dual-sport venue on April 30, and 42 days later, there is a progress update. The main focus during this offseason is the lower bowl (sightlines and a new seating system) and the backlot (preparing the space to build the 450-stall garage). A crew of 350 people have collectively logged nearly 32,000 hours on the demolition thus far.

During the Utah Mammoth's exit interviews, there was a common phrase used: "Top of the league." Nearly every player said it when describing their experience in Salt Lake City and how they were treated by their new owners. It was a positive pitch coming from a team that was uprooted from a college arena, moved to a different state and put in front of a new audience in a matter of months. A lot could have gone wrong - but it didn't.
