WASHINGTON • Facebook hasn’t been “fully forthcoming” as Congress investigated Russia’s attempted meddling in the 2016 presidential election, Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., said Sunday. Warner, the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that he questioned “the use of this really sketchy firm Cambridge Analytica,” but Facebook “blew that off” as they did other concerns over Russia’s actions.

News: A group of tech giants, industry groups and think tanks are pushing Congress to make a key Commerce Department AI initiative permanent before the end of the year. Amazon, Google, OpenAI, Anthropic, Microsoft, IBM and other tech companies implored congressional leaders to formalize the AI Safety Institute in a letter obtained exclusively by Punchbowl News.

Add one of Lina Khan’s fellow agency Democrats to the list of progressives calling for the Federal Trade Commission chair to keep her job. The nod from Commissioner Rebecca Kelly Slaughter comes as some surrogates for Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign signal they’d like to see Khan exit. But Slaughter’s praise also comes as some in tech whisper they’d prefer Slaughter take over the agency if Harris wins.
