    I arrived at the Camden Public Landing in May 1971 with college and the U.S. Army behind me and a sail around the world ahead, at least in theory. But Camden became my forever home that very first summer, even if I didn’t know it then. So for many years I’ve been puzzling out why my heart latched onto this town so completely, and I believe it's much, much more than the old dam above the harbor falls.

    I’ve observed the letters against the Dubuque GOP Chair this month, and I‘m not surprised at their outrage. Many operate on emotion and rhetoric over common sense and substance. Not a positive for our Constitutional Republic. Alas, it’s long past time that the federal government get gutted like a fish, have serious civil service reforms and reduce our debt.

    Camden voters undecided about the Article 7 dam removal vote in June have a golden opportunity to learn more this weekend, which will also be a chance for passionately decided voters to rally for their cause and become volunteers. On Friday, the Megunticook RiverKeepers are holding an informal Free The River Happy Hour from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Community Room on the Public Landing level of the 16 Bay View hotel.
