    White Smoke In Rome As New Pope ElectedCardinals have elected a new Pope. The decision was confirmed just after 5pm Irish time as white smoke appeared from the Chimney of the Sistine Chapel. It came on the second day of the conclave, with 133 cardinals voting over the last two days.     Last Month Was The Second Warmest April EverLast month was the second warmest April globally - only behind last year. The EU climate change monitoring service has issued its regular update. The figures show last month was 0.6 degrees above the average temperatures for April. The Copurnicus figures show temperatures remain more than 1.5 degrees above the pre-industrial era - which is the above the target to limit the worst effects of climate change.

    Suicide Rate Falls To Lowest Level In 20 YearsThe suicide rate in Ireland has fallen to its lowest level in 20 years. It's now the eleventh lowest rate in the EU. Preliminary figures for 2023 show 302 people died by suicide - a 20 year low. There is a significant time lag in reporting deaths by suicide while coroner investigations conclude.

    Heavy Rain In Parts Over The WeekendTwo more status yellow weather warnings for rain have been issued. Both begin at 6 a.m. tomorrow, and heavy rain will occur at times in counties in the west and southeast. Galway and Mayo are included in one warning that expires at 9pm Friday. The other concerns Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow and Waterford and that expires early Saturday morning. This is in addition to a previously issued rain warning for Kerry and Cork from 11pm tonight until midday tomorrow.
