After a virus disrupted her road campaign last season, Zoe Bäckstedt is preparing for a Spring Classics campaign and another shot at her favourite race, Paris-Roubaix Femmes avec Zwift. The 20-year-old competed in her first Paris-Roubaix in 2023 and then finished 16th in the prestigious one-day race last year and hopes to replicate the success of her father, Magnus Bäckstedt, who won the men’s version.

Thibau Nys suffered an illness two weeks before the Cyclo-Cross World Championships which caused him to miss the Maasmechelen World Cup and then abandon the following day at Hoogerheide. However, he rose to the occasion in Liévin on Sunday and was in the thick of the battle for medals.

Wout van Aert was reunited with his lost Garmin by two French children following the UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships in Liévin. The Belgian rider, who was held up at the start of the race after a fourth-row start, lost his watch on the circuit during the subsequent laps before finishing with the silver medal behind the elite men's race winner Mathieu van der Poel (Netherlands).

Arch rival Wout van Aert suffered a first-lap crash while trying to reach the front and was left in second, while fellow Belgian Thibau Nys rounded out the podium in third.

Zoe Bäckstedt Great Britain) soaked up the pressure and overcame a last-lap slip to defend her under-23 women’s Cyclo-cross World Championships crown in Liévin. Bäckstedt stayed ahead of Marie Schreiber (Luxembourg) who made a late charge and finished second, while Leonie Bentveld (Netherlands) took bronze. The British rider came into the event as a firm favourite but crashed heavily on the opening lap on a slippery descent.
