Depending on your ticket-buying service of choice, you could make your way inside Lucas Oil Stadium this weekend to see Penn State take on Oregon in the Big Ten Championship Game for less than $20 a person. It’s a crazy thing to contemplate, especially when concert tickets can cost hundreds of dollars and high-profile sporting events can set you back more than you care to admit.

For all the college football things being talked about, Penn State being one Michigan victory from the Big Ten Championship Game isn’t one of them. It would be fitting, though. The last time Penn State made the conference title game in 2016, it was the result of Ohio State beating Michigan in overtime. Now the Wolverines could do the same for the Nittany Lions eight years later. Of course, that outcome seems unlikely. Michigan is a shell of its national championship team.

Get ready because, believe it or not, Saturday is the latest entry into the James Franklin Big Game conversation. Yes, over the past decade, Penn State has won only a handful of games that represent achieving big-picture goals. If we’re going to boil it down, there are two wins: the 2016 Ohio State game, and the eventual Big Ten title game that followed. The rest — including Cotton, Rose and Fiesta Bowl wins — carry meaningful weight of their own, but not to the same extent.

"We are getting the type of support at a level that I think this place demands and should have," the Penn State coach says. In this story:If you rewind the clock just over a decade, it seemed almost impossible to imagine that Penn State and James Franklin would still be together 10 years later.

Editor's Note: The following column first appeared at Ben Jones on Penn State. The hard part is, everyone is right to some degree. Fans aren’t wrong to expect Penn State to occasionally make it over the Ohio State Hump. For the better part of the last decade, Penn State has been right there, and whatever gaps might exist between the two programs, the Nittany Lions have had legitimate opportunities to win games against the Buckeyes. Wanting that to change on occasion isn’t unreasonable.

Empty net goal sends BU to the national title game. Penn State will lament some missed opportunities in this one, but hard to take much away from the season the Nittany Lions had. Frozen Four appearance, legit Hobey Baker candidate. Historic season no matter the end.

Penn State down 2-0 after two. Nittany Lions have had their chances in this one but BU has made the most of its looks. Not a bad performance really, BU just a bit better so far.

Penn State has come a long way but its biggest opponent in a lot of ways are traditionalist pipelines and perception. Program is legit, but it’s still getting leftover NHL prospects, BU among those who get pick of the litter.

@Ben_Jones88 BU players operating with completely different physics than Penn State.
