If you’re unfortunate enough to spend as much time on LinkedIn as I do, you’ll have seen a lot of posts about the current capabilities of AI. Whether it’s the AI Coke ad of last year or the current mashups of Interstellar and Studio Ghibli, there’s always someone (I suspect they are mainly plants, or bots from the AI companies) who can’t contain their excitement at what AI can do for $500 or thereabouts.

My final project for Unit 2 will be a one boy show, rework of Shakespeare's play the Tempest, using all the skills learnt in my online Young Academy Film Course. In the course there was a section on the history of film and types of films. This included a screening of Charlie Chaplin silent film, called The Kid. I decided this would be the best way to approach my own film. To make it silent and create more of a drama using movements, gestures and props to recreate my version.

Having filmed my fight scene, recorded the sound effect, now this bit was editing in the sound to make sure it fitted into the scene at the right time. Continuing to learn from my course with Young Film Academy, I took the fight scene I filmed with 2 actors and edited in my punch sound effect. You then have to find the exact right place in the scene to add the effect itself. It was fiddly doing the editing on a phone and next time I will use a bigger tablet to make it easier.

Punch scene, sound effect and final edit. Having spent ages filming, recording and editing my short fight scene, this was my final cut. I was very pleased with it but surprised how long it took to do. I am a bit worried about completing a whole film for my main Silver Arts Award challenge, but I am now thinking I will keep my film simple, with less special effects and make it more about the drama.
