One of the deals we make with Mother Nature by living in Sioux Falls is that we'll endure the cold and the snow of a northern plains winter, and in exchange, we get mild summer. We don't suffer as much from summer humidity as our southern neighbours in Nebraska. Sure, the corn sweat can make us plenty sticky come August. But, spend a July day in Omaha and you will recognize how not-gross we have it here.

Can You Break a Car Window to Save a Dog in South Dakota? Mixing a little heat and humidity is not just a recipe for a hot and sticky day, but also for a dangerous place inside a car. The hot South Dakota summer is a good time to remind everyone to not leave their dogs (or cats) in a hot car. Even for a few minutes. The temperature in a closed-up car can rise quickly, exceeding the outside temperature by many degrees.

The County Fair Was Everything in a Small TownGrowing up in a small rural town, most of summer was just a countdown to what really mattered, THE FAIR! The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Watch for southeast South Dakota, including Sioux Falls, as well as northwest Iowa and southwest Minnesota. The Watch is in effect from Friday morning through Saturday evening (June 20-21, 2025). The Sioux Empire is forecast to see temperatures near 100 degrees Friday and Saturday. Those temperatures combined with rising humidity will create heat index values near 110 degrees. Plus, it's not going to cool off much at night.

When I first heard about the Lallycooler Music Festival, I was excited. Two days of live music under the South Dakota summer sky out at Bear in Sioux Falls? Yes please. Then, when they announced the line-up, I got REALLY excited! It's going to be incredible seeing Pitbull, TLC, Sam Hunt, Uncle Kracker, and the whole lineup live in Sioux Falls.
