Image source, BBC Weather Watchers / BeefyThis week will bring the UK its warmest weather of the year. Temperatures are currently expected to peak at 27 or 28C (81-82F) on Thursday - 1 May - but there is a small chance that 27C could be reached by Wednesday. That would mark the hottest April weather for seven years. The warmth will be accompanied by dry conditions and sunshine bringing high UV and pollen levels.

Published10 minutes agoA yellow weather warning has been issued by the Met Office with heavy rain set to affect parts of the UK over the Easter bank holiday weekend. The warning covers parts of south-west England on Good Friday and Saturday, where up to 75mm (3in) could fall. Other places will also see some wet weather but it will not be a complete washout. There will be sunny spells which will lift temperatures slightly above the April average. It means mixed prospects for bank holiday travellers.

Spring is when many of us look forward to more daylight, sunshine and warmer weather, but it is also a great time in the calendar to look up in the night sky. This year we've had aurora displays, a partial solar eclipse, and for the next 10 days, with clear skies permitting, you can enjoy the Lyrid meteor shower. This celestial event happens every year between mid to late April, visible as short-lived streaks of light in the sky.

Published11 minutes agoThe Met Office has issued yellow warnings for rain across parts of the UK. Wales, western England and Northern Ireland are set to be worst affected with the risk of localised flooding and travel disruption on Tuesday and Wednesday. Showers and thunderstorms are expected more widely across the UK and strong winds will also be a feature. It marks a big change from the exceptionally dry, warm and sunny weather that has dominated for the first half of this month.

Published12 minutes agoApril showers have been in short supply so far this month - but that looks set to change this week. The area of high pressure that has kept the UK largely dry and sunny over the last few weeks is retreating with low pressure taking its place. That will bring rain for many areas and even the chance of some thunderstorms. A Met Office yellow warning has been issued covering Wales and parts of western England during Tuesday and Wednesday.
