The design is bedroom fantasia – mattresses become trampolines, chandeliers trapezes, balloons are clouds and angels swoop by. We are treated to a circus performance with superior attention to storyline and particularly soundtrack.

    An angel is cast out of heaven; told he shall never return. He lands on Earth in a giant egg, before hatching a plan to climb back up. He nurses a (normal-sized) egg, his only friend. All the while with only a fluffy cloud to protect his newly-discovered modesty. So far, so bizarre. This is a one-man show, performed by the one-name-only Jasper, but in each tour location he partners with local Gregorian chant singers, to provide an at times haunting soundscape.

    The first thing to get clear is that Tom Gaskin has talent. It’s a big ask to sustain a one-man show for seventy minutes, without boring an audience. Especially so in circus – traditionally an ensemble medium, where a diverse cast brings a variety of disciplines to entertain and dazzle. It’s down to Gaskin alone to juggle and clown, puppeteer and balance, and he pulls off quite a few feats that have the audience cheering and gasping, and prove he’s no one-trick pony.
