Atherton Collieries can make it back-to-back wins when they welcome Trafford to the Dreams2Reality Stadium in tomorrow’s Northern Premier League Division One West clash (3pm). Dylan Thompson grabbed the only goal as Atherton Collieries kept their faint hopes of NPL Premier Division survival alive. Heading into Saturday’s game, the Colls had to win to maintain any chance of an improbable late dash towards safety, while Stafford sat three points below the drop zone. It would be the hosts who grabbed the much-coveted opening goal, breaking the deadlock just before the break following a recycled free-kick.

Colls’ Enock Lusiama scores from the spot at Morpeth on Saturday Sam Hodgson scored both goals for Morpeth Town as Atherton Collieries were beaten 2-1 in the North East in NPL Premier Division on Saturday. Hodgson’s brace came after a penalty from Enock Lusiama had initially put David Chadwick’s side in front. In a game that took a while to truly ignite, the only real chance of the first half-hour came in the form of a Nic Bollado shot fired straight at Colls keeper Tom Donaghy.

An early second-half strike from Declan Howe was the difference as Gainsborough Trinity defeated Atherton Colls 1-0 in NPL Premier Division on Saturday. In a nondescript first 15 minutes, neither team could fashion a real clear-cut chance to break the deadlock, although the hosts dominated possession. The first chance for either team fell for Colls, a Luke Thompson cross found captain Lewis Mansell who laid the ball back to prolific forward Enock Lusiama to pull his effort wide.

Atherton Collieries fell agonisingly short of what would have been a remarkable NPL Premier Division comeback, as their 10-men were beaten 4-3 at Ashton United. Defender Dylan Moonan had given the away side the lead in the first half, before goals from Sean Newton, Luke Burke, Nathan Lowe and James Hardy seemingly wrapped the game up for the Robins. However, Oli Putnam and Dylan Thompson then struck in quick succession late on to set up a nervy final few minutes for the home support.

Jonathan Margetts’ stellar season in front of goal continued, with the striker scoring twice as Matlock overcame 10-man Atherton Collieries 3-1 at the Skuna Stadium on Saturday. Margetts’ new strike partner, Scott Boden, also struck for the visitors, who rallied from a goal down after Enock Lusiama had opened the scoring for Colls early on.
