WEST BLOOMFIELD — Last November, the Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Eaglets locked themselves in a weight room, and began prepping for the 2024 season waiting for moments like this. A moment where you can be resilient, determined, and succeed in. “That’s just been Orchard Lake Football for centuries for years is to play physically. And we needed that to help us for times like this, in the playoffs, and all that good stuff. So I’m just proud of this group,” third-year head coach Jermaine Gonzales said.

NOVI — Three weeks ago in the KLAA Championship, the entire state of Michigan learned that Belleville was beatable when Howell used a last-second play to beat the Tigers by a single point. On Friday night, a record crowd of over 7,800 packed the campus of Detroit Catholic Central and saw the Shamrocks beat Belleville 35-21. Catholic Central will play Cass Tech in the Division 1 state semifinals on Saturday, Nov. 23.

NOVI — West Bloomfield has been trying to find its offensive identity for nine weeks. Head coach Zach Hilbers has seen it in spurts but he saw a complete game on Friday night at Novi High School. “We played really well today, and I’m happy with the result. We had a lot of games this year where we played really well in spurts, and our whole goal was to finally put it together. Obviously with a really hard schedule, it shows you your strengths, but your weaknesses, too,” he said.

SOUTH LYON — Beginning next week, 32 teams across the state in each division get to play an additional game. But for this week, a couple of teams in Division 2 sat just outside of the field of 32 and needed to win to get in. South Lyon East and South Lyon High School both were on the outside looking in, but the odds were in the Cougars’ favor being the 34th team in the state. The odds would drastically improve with a win over their rival.

FARMINGTON HILLS — The corner of 13 Mile and Farmington Road doesn’t see a lot of football on Thursday nights very often, but played host to an instant classic in the Oakland Activities Association Blue matchup between North Farmington and defending league champion Birmingham Seaholm.
