Aramark Collegiate Hospitality is inviting students to enjoy a taste of the Mediterranean this fall with the launch of its new concept, Medi. The idea for the concept came from students themselves, who were requesting more healthy options on campus. “We went in the direction of more Mediterranean diet, because I think [students are] looking for healthy,” says Aramark Director of Culinary Tim Zintz.

A new report by the Presidential Commission to Make America Healthy Again went after ultra-processed foods in school meals and the U.S. House passed a bill that would threaten universal school meal access by cutting funding for Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Meanwhile at the state level, South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster signed a bill into law that will ban lunch shaming and expand universal free school meal access.

The East End Food Institute and Onondaga County Health Department were both awarded $5 million to go toward funding projects that aim to increase the amount of local food in school meals. New York Governor Kathy Hochul has announced a second round of funding for the state’s Regional School Food Infrastructure Grant Program.
