German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) will present the first draft bills to the cabinet of Germany's new center-right government on Wednesday (May 28) aimed at limiting migration and reforming naturalization. Under the minister's plans, relatives of people with subsidiary protection who live abroad are only allowed to join them in Germany after two years. The proposal is reportedly in line with the coalition deal of Chancellor Friedrich Merz's conservatives and the Social Democrats.

Ahmed Odowaa, an asylum seeker from Somalia who helped stop a knife attacker in the German city of Aschaffenburg on January 22, will no longer face deportation to Italy. That's according to Joachim Herrmann, interior minister of the German state of Bavaria, where Aschaffenburg is located. His announcement on Monday evening (April 7) contradicts previous media reports, which had stated that the 30-year-old Somali would have to leave Germany in the summer.

Poland will launch an information campaign abroad to deter migrants from trying to cross into the European Union through its border with Belarus, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Friday (April 4). "We will soon launch an information campaign in seven countries where the largest number of migrants trying to illegally cross the Polish border come from," Tusk said in Polish in a video published on social media on Friday.
