My house in Altadena burned down in the wildfires on Wednesday. It all happened quickly. On Tuesday around 7pm, my wife and daughters went to a hotel as a precaution. I left the house with the dogs when the mandatory evacuation order came in around 3am. As best as I can put the timeline together, our home burned down around the same time that the sun came up, and I was able to drive in and see the damage around 2pm. Neighbors that went in after said it looked like a “war zone”.

1 Introduction Understanding the causes and drivers of regional sea-level variability is important for a significant fraction of the global population living at the coast and experiencing rates of sea-level rise greater than the global mean (Nicholls et al., 2021). With this understanding, communities can strategically plan and better respond to current and future impacts within the context of regional climatic and geologic forcings (Nicholls, 2015).

Three children sit before him, listening with rapt attention. The memorial commemorates the arrival of Kunta Kinte, a character from Haley's 1976 novel Roots, and represents the author's vision for racial reconciliation and national healing. It is also a poignant illustration of climate change.
