AbstractThe first observations of JWST have revolutionized our understanding of the Universe by identifying for the first time galaxies at \(z\sim 13\)1–3. In addition, the discovery of many luminous galaxies at Cosmic Dawn (\(z > 10\)) has suggested that galaxies developed rapidly, in apparent tension with many standard models4–8. However, most of these galaxies lack spectroscopic confirmation, so their distances and properties are uncertain.

According to the August 2023 Climate Summary, Pensacola's average monthly high broke the record set in 1951 by 1.7 degrees. August's mean maximum temperature was 97.1 degrees, beating out the record 95.4-degree average set in 1951. Deputies responded to Fields Lane overnight after a reported shooting. "We found a 20-year-old with a gunshot wound to the chest who was transported to a local hospital," ECSO spokesperson Morgan Lewis told the News Journal. Lewis said deputies arrested 23-year-old Charles Jordan for the shooting and booked him into Escambia County Jail. According to jail records, he is charged with aggravated battery and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.

PPD spokesperson Officer Mike Wood told the News Journal that officers arrested Joseph Eugene Stewart Jr. after a search at 7600 block of Northpointe Drive found he allegedly possessed child sex abuse material. Wood said Stewart was arrested for second-degree felony possession of 10 or more child porn images, third-degree felony electronically transmitting child pornography and third-degree felony using a two-way communication device to facilitate a felony.

A Pensacola man is in Escambia County Jail after he allegedly tried to shoot another man but was thwarted by a weapon malfunction. Eddie Gilliland, 30, is charged with attempted homicide and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. According to Gilliland's arrest report, the victim was walking toward his car Friday when he heard someone yelling obscenities at him and turned to see Gilliland walking in his direction.

The deputy arrested Darby King for aggravated animal cruelty resulting in death after he discovered "Blue" in a crate while he was investigating an alleged burglary. "While doing a walk through I located a metal dog crate located in a small room near the front portion inside the residence," King's arrest report states. "When I approached the dog crate I smelled a foul odor at which point I lifted the cover and looked inside.
