South Carolina could begin executing death row prisoners a little over a month apart. The state has seen a 13-year hold in executions, but is due to begin again on September 20. The South Carolina Supreme Court said in a recent ruling that a five-week interval between executions was a “reasonable” approach. Death row inmates had asked for a period of 13 weeks between executions, but Attorney General Alan Wilson wanted one every month.

A terrified pilot thought some of her passengers had been sucked out of the Alaska Airlines plane she was flying which lost a door panel mid-flight. Emily Wiprud wasn’t sure what had happened at first, but said the “first indication” anything was wrong was “an explosion in my ears and then a whoosh of air”. Wiprud was in the cockpit on flight 1282 from Portland to on January 5.

A teen who avoided prosecution by claiming self-defense after allegedly shooting his father dead last year is now facing murder charges after his mother was stabbed to death. Catherine Griffith, 39, died in a 55-and-over community in The Hamptons in Auburndale, Florida on Sunday. Her son, Collin Griffith, 17, is alleged to have killed her, according to Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd who spoke at a press conference Wednesday.

Heartbreaking notes were left at the scene of Lucy-Bleu Knight’s suicide after the stepdaughter of Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash tragically took her own life. According to a coroner’s report seen by the New York Post, young Lucy, 25, had a “history of undiagnosed mental illness” and her family said she was “paranoid and would have hallucinations”. Her death on July 19 was ruled a suicide. The report said a “packet of suicide notes” were found in the main room of a property on a side table.

Police in Texas were called to a horrific incident after a violent man shot dead his wife and two young children, before turning the gun on himself. The bodies of Jose Olmos, 42, his wife Jessica, 33, and their children Daniel and Jazele were found on Saturday evening after police were called to the 3600 block of NE 14th Avenue in Amarillo. Olmos, an electrician, had been arrested on May 19 on charges of assaulting a family member. He was returned home on a $500 bond.

A father accused of murdering his daughter used his twin brother’s ID to enter another country, prosecutors said in court documents. Hector Ramon Martinez-Ayala, 54, was charged by police in Utah after Salt Lake City sheriff’s deputy Marbella Martinez, 25, was found dead on August 1 when police were called to do a welfare check. The father is accused of killing his daughter by allegedly strangling her on July 31.
