In early 2023, Brigham Young University published a compilation of "landmark" addresses that "shed revelatory light on the divine role of this institution." Copies of " Envisioning BYU " were supplied to every faculty member. It may even serve as a textbook for a new required course for all incoming students. One of the core speeches is " The Charted Course of the Church in Education," delivered by J. Reuben Clark in 1938.

Lavina Fielding Anderson knew she was delivering a bombshell. Anderson, a dedicated Mormon who had previously edited The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' magazines, was also a scholar, writer and feminist. And on this day in August 1992, she was giving a conference presentation detailing how Latter-day Saint authorities had repeatedly silenced dissenting congregants.

Spencer W. Kimball, despite being ordained an apostle just shy of his 50th birthday in 1943, never expected to live long enough to be president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Much of his adult life was filled with health problems, including a series of heart attacks and a malignancy of the throat and vocal cords. When he spoke in General Conference, he wore a miniature microphone attached to his cheek so his raspy words would be carried to television and radio audiences.
