    Cervelo has released a new Aspero 5, featuring a completely different mold from the standard Aspero, thus distinguishing the Aspero 5 as Cervelo’s dedicated gravel race machine. The differences to the latest Aspero released last year are myriad, but most importantly, Cervelo has focused on making the Aspero 5 a proper aero bike, to the tune of a claimed 37-watt boost in efficiency over its predecessor, and 34 watts faster than the nearest competitor’s aero gravel bike.

    Six years ago, 42 mm tires were used to win Unbound Gravel. This year, most racers at the pointy end were running something around 2″, or the max that their frame and fork will accommodate. Yet, during this period, the widths of most race-ready rims – with a few exceptions – haven’t grown to suit this huge increase in tire volume. HED changed that recently by introducing the Lincoln G25 and Stillwater G50 carbon gravel wheels, both featuring 28.5mm internal and 36mm external widths.

    Let’s face it, the cycling industry loves trying to eke out marginal drivetrain efficiency gains with oversized pulley upgrades and ceramic bearings, but these things are incredibly expensive. So, Kogel just launched a more affordable version of the oversized derailleur cage – the Kolossos ST. You get much of the same benefits as the top-tier premium Kolossoses, but at a 30% lower price. Not quite affordable yet, but more affordable. A lot less money, for just a smidge more drag.
